St. Thomas the Apostle Episcopal Church, Nassau Bay, invites all people interested in education of girls in developing countries to a presentation by Developments in Literacy at St. Thomas on Sunday, April 24, 2016 at 12:15 pm.
Developments in Literacy (DIL) is a nonprofit school system founded by Americans in 1997 to serve girls in Pakistan. Since that time, it has established hundreds of schools, shared teaching expertise with the country’s public schools, and achieved a 4 star rating on Charity Navigator. The program now includes boys and supports education to become teachers for Pakistani women. St. Thomas the Apostle has supported DIL for over a decade, most recently through DIL’s participation in the church’s annual Advent Alternative Gift Market.
DIL’s story will be told by Maha Khan, a Houston-based DIL representative educated at an Episcopal school in Weslaco, Texas and at the University of Houston. She will update St. Thomas and its guests on DIL’s work for literacy in a part of the world where literacy means everything to the children who can get it, and offers the best hope of progress to Pakistan and its region.
There will be a light lunch and beverages provided. Please contact Ellen Cook at office@stchrischurch.org with the number planning to attend so there is sufficient food available.
We are looking forward to hearing about this wonderful organization and the amazing strides they are making in Pakistai education. Hope to see you here!
